Walk in Her Shoes Campaign

2 February 2012 at 6:54 pm

Imagine if you had to walk for hours every day, often in very dangerous situations. You must carry an average load of 20 kg – the equivalent to the UK’s average luggage allowance – simply to survive.

For many women and girls that’s a reality.

Collecting water, firewood and other basic necessities are responsibilities that usually fall upon women and girls in the developing world. This leaves little time to attend school, access health services or earn money to support their families.

Walk for charity – Walk in her shoes

To support CARE’s work with women and girls and to celebrate International Women’s Day, 8 March 2012, we are challenging you to Walk In Her Shoes:
* Choose one week in March and walk 10,000 steps (approximately five miles) each day of that week. The average person in the UK walks less than two miles a day
* Aim to raise £100 for your efforts to help support CARE’s work with women and girls

We will support you every step of the way, with advice on fundraising and how to fit more exercise into your day. We will also send you a t-shirt and a pedometer so you can track your steps. Sign up today!

Make a difference by walking for charity

Women and girls in developing countries are disproportionately affected by poverty, but they can succeed when they have the right tools and resources. That is why CARE works with women and girls to improve access to healthcare and education, build water and sanitation facilities, and to increase opportunities to help women earn a living. Supporters in Canada and Australia will also be taking on this challenge. Please help us to spread the word by telling people you know in these countries.
