A singer once dubbed “Britain’s First Lady of Folk” is to headline a show celebrating women.

Julie Felix was one of the first solo folk artists to sign to a major British label, releasing her self-titled debut on Decca in 1964.

She went on to record dozens of albums, appeared at the famous 1969 Isle of Wight Festival and was a regular guest on satirical TV show The Frost Report.

She also had her own BBC shows, Once More With Felix and The Julie Felix Show.

Now 72, she is set to appear at the International Women’s Day event at Charlton House, Charlton, on March 8.

Organiser Louisa Le Marchard said: “It is going to be a great night – really exciting. “Julie Felix is amazing and a real legend in the folk world. She became know as Britain’s First Lady of Folk. She is still performing and does a lot of work for charities. We wanted the event to be really special as last year’s was so successful, so I decided to get in touch with her. She was very enthusiastic as she feels a connection with our work.

The show has been organised by Greenwich-based Global Fusion Music and Arts.

It will feature performances by Indian singer-songwriter Unnati Dasgupta, Chinese dancer Du Du Li, Kenyan singer Apelles Ogaga and German poet UrsulaTroche.

The event will be compered by Nigerian poet Sandhya Koffi and set against a backdrop of an exhibition of work by young female artists.

Tickets for the show, which will run from 7.30pm to 10.30pm, cost £6.

The box office is on 020 8858 9497.
