Imperial War Museum North celebrates International Women’s Day ~ 3rd -25th March 2012

Imperial War Museum North are holding a series of events to celebrate International Women’s Day in March this year, full details are listed below.

A Closer Look: International Women’s Day (Ideal for ages 14+)*

Sunday 4th (film screening only) and 11th plus Monday 5th, Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th, Thursday 8th and Friday 9th March, 2.15pm.
Meet at the Tour Point in the foyer.

As part of our programme of events marking International Women’s Day 2012, join us for a 20 minute walk and talk around the Main Exhibition Space to find out more about some of the personal stories in our collections. These tours will focusing on the roles of women in wartime, including First World War nurses Mairi Chisholm and Elsie Knocker.

*Session on 11th March will also include the chance to see recorded interviews with local Second World War Women’s Royal Naval Service members.
*Session on 4th March will be an additional film screening in place of the tour due to the BBC Philharmonic event.

What A Performance: International Women’s Day* (Ideal for all ages)
Saturday 3rd and 10th March,
11.15pm, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.15pm
Main Exhibition Space
See one of our special, family friendly performances dramatising stories of wartime adventure including the story of a daring female spy serving with the Special Operations Executive during the Second World War.

*The session on 3rd March is also part of Manchester Histories Festival (24th February – 4th March)

What Nancy Did Next (Ideal for all ages)
Saturday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th March, 1-4pm
Learning Studio

Marking the month of International Women’s Day, meet our fictional character Nancy and hear her tales of life in the Land Army in the Second World War. Learn about her wartime experiences away from home and making new friends … especially with a quiet and timid horse called Rufus. Enjoy the story then make your own unique souvenir to take home and keep.

What Nancy Did Next (Ideal for all ages)
Saturday 31st and Sundays 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th March, 11.30am
Meet underneath the Harrier Jump Jet

Meet Nancy and hear her tales of life in the Land Army in the Second World War. Learn about her wartime experiences away from home and making new friends … especially with a quiet and timid horse called Rufus. In this interactive Family Friendly session, visitors can choose what happens and so each story-telling session will be different. The session uses puppets and multi-sensory resources including sounds and smells.
