Translated Identities – event to mark International Women’s Day – Edinburgh ~ 8th March 2012

The Institute for Advanced Studies in the the Humanities (IASH) and Scottish PEN are hosting and event ‘Translated Identities, to mark International Women’s Day bringing together creative writers, scholars and critics.

The event is free, including lunch and refreshments but early booking essential as space is limited.

    9.30 – Introduction by Susan Manning and Jenni Calder
    9.45 – Marilyn Booth: The Hidden ‘I’: Women and Autobiographical Writing in Egypt, 1885-1925
    10.45 – Coffee
    11.15 – Marianne Boruch: Closely at a Distance: The Unlikely Friendship of Elizabeth Bishop and Flannery O’Connor
    12.15 – Dilys Rose reads from her work
    12.45 – Lunch
    13.45 – Olga Taxidou: Translating Tragic Women: Medea, Trojan Women, The Bacchae
    14.45 – Kapka Kassabova reads from her work
    15.15 – Tea
    15.45 – Round table discussion
    17.00 – Ends
