An Oxfam event to mark International Women’s Day takes place at the Old Bus Station in Barnstaple on Thursday 8th March.

It is part of a national project to address poverty. According to the organisation 70 per cent of those living in poverty around the globe are women and children.

The evening will include information stalls on subjects as widespread as women in literature and art, substance abuse, alternative health, knitting and anger management.

There will be chances to sample sessions in Zumba, massage, self defence, drawing, singing, songwriting and drumming.

Exhibitions on show include Underwear Through History, Women On Bikes Since 1890 and a display of retro fashion from Barnstaple’s Oxfam shop.

From 9pm there will be music from 3’s Company, Caroline Cassinelli, Angela Luxton and Roholio The Great.

Entry to the event, which runs from 5.30pm to 11.30pm, will cost £3. Children welcome before 8.30pm.
